Taxes & Spending
Log Cabin Republicans believe American prosperity is founded on a strong private sector, free markets, and limited government interference. Americans work hard, and should not have their hard-earned wages confiscated by burdensome taxes to support wasteful spending and overgrown government. As conservatives, Log Cabin Republicans agree with President Ronald Reagan that "Governments don't reduce deficits by raising taxes on the people; governments reduce deficits by controlling spending and stimulating new wealth." Keeping taxes low and restraining government power are vital to the success of our economy.
As gay and lesbian Americans and their allies, Log Cabin Republicans are particularly sensitive to the many ways that the current tax code disadvantages millions of Americans because of their sexual orientation. From the fundamentally immoral 'Death Tax' to taxation of health benefits for domestic partners, gay and lesbian Americans pay millions of dollars in unfair extra taxes every year. As part of our efforts to reform the tax code to benefit all Americans, Log Cabin Republicans are committed to fighting for basic fairness in taxation of same-sex couples.
