Log Cabin - KY Defending GOP Values On July 14, the University of Louisville Board of Trustees voted overwhelmingly in favor of offering domestic partner benefits to university employees. The Board of Trustees approved the measure as a way to make the university competitive and attract talent. This action brought on a backlash from extreme social fundamentalists. State Senator Richard "Dick" Roeding (R-Lakeside Park) called the policy "repulsive". He told the Courier Journal, "I don't want to entice any of those people into our state....Those are the wrong kind of people."
Roeding was contacted by his local paper, the Northern Kentucky publication the Kentucky Post, for a reaction to Log Cabin's statement. When told who Log Cabin Republicans is, Roeding responded, "Oh a bunch of queers." Roeding's name calling further demonstrates the feelings in his heart, and confirms that he is unworthy of the privilege of public service. The Kentucky Post said in an editorial of Roeding, "...a bigot unfit for further public service." Log Cabin - Kentucky is on the front lines of the battle for the soul of the GOP - defending the values of the Party of Lincoln. Join us today as we fight the forces of intolerance.
On April 11th Governor Ernie Fletcher signed an Executive Order rescinding protections from employment discrimination based on sexual orientation for Kentucky state employees. Log Cabin - Kentucky is leading the fight in speaking out against the Governor's actions.
