Patrick Sammon Welcome Reception

A Welcome Reception for Patrick Sammon was held at the home of Paul Mavros and Chicago Chapter President, David Valkema on March 24, 2007. The capacity crowd was pleased with the energy and passion evident in the room.

Chicago Chapter President, David Valkema, spoke on a theme of renewed energy, passion and strategy for their "noble endeavor". After an explaination of the 2007 Chicago Chapter Agenda by President Valkema, an introduction was made of the new National Log Cabin Republicans President, Patrick Sammon. Mr. Sammon spoke on the need for the LCR to stay active and visible within the Republican Party and the need for the Republican Party to return to its roots that have been so successful in the past.

Many of the several inclusive equality minded Republican elected officials and legislators at the event agreed that civil equality for the LGBT community will happen someday and that the Republican Party should be a natural ally for such equality given its history and that it rose to power because it embraced the ideals of equality imagined by our Founding Fathers and ensured in our Constitution.

The crowd was very pleased with the whole evening and vowed to be a passionate voice within the Republican Party for all Gays and Lesbians, as well as their straight committed and partnered allies who may wish to remain unmarried.

After the weekend Mr. Sammon stated, " I had a wonderful weekend in your city. Thanks for organizing a fantastic event on Saturday. Log Cabin is fortunate to have such great people leading our efforts in Chicago. There are great opportunities here in the coming months and years. The National office is commited to helping your efforts any way we can. Thanks so much."
