The Log Cabin Republicans Chicago Appalled by anti gay statements by U.S. Senate Candidate Alan Keyes
The Board of the Log Cabin Republicans is appalled by statements made by Illinois U.S. Senate Candidate Alan Keyes yesterday. Speaking at an anti-gay marriage rally in Chicago's Marquette Park neighborhood, Keyes said that incest is inevitable for the children of gay and lesbian parents.
Keyes comments are outrageous, unfounded and very painful to Illinois gays and lesbians, especially those with children.
Alan Keyes has repeatedly used his U.S. Senate campaign to hurt Illinois gays and lesbians. Keyes comments show that he is grossly out of touch with Illinois families including many that have a gay or lesbian member.
The rally in Marquette Park yesterday was part of a statewide United We Stand Defending Marriage bus tour being coordinated by the Illinois Family Coalition, an extreme far-right fringe organization.
Alan Keyes should apologize for his statement immediately. We encourage Illinois Republicans to let Keyes and his campaign know that derogatory statements toward gays and lesbians is inappropriate and unacceptable. Voters from the state of Lincoln and Reagan deserve a better candidate than someone from another state who uses his campaign as a platform to insult Illinois residents.
